KANO - A bomb hidden in a black plastic bag exploded killing several people in the flashpoint state of Bauchi, northern Nigeria, Friday, near the site of the bus station attack recently blamed on Boko Haram, witnesses said.
Some townspeople were targeting City Azare told AFP that the bomber approached the people who are in the queue outside the First Bank branch at about 10:30 local time.
"A man came to the walk to the ATM where many people flock to take turns withdraw money," said Lamara Ibrahim, who was at the scene.
The man tried to leave the black plastic bag in a motorcycle parked nearby, but was stopped by the local people who said he left the parcels were not attended and were banned after the recent unrest in the area.
"By the time they spoke to him, the bomb exploded. I saw there were at least 10 people apparently died," Ibrahim said, noting that he was not in a position to confirm the death toll.
Musa Usman, who is also nearby, providing an identical report the attack and it is estimated there are some people who were killed.
A bomb blast at a bus station in Azare killed at least five people on October 23, with a lot of people in this town pointing the finger at Boko Haram, which launched an uprising against the Nigerian state five years.
The bus station is only 100 meters (330 feet) from the ATM machine.
An official at the depot, who asked to remain unnamed, said he rushed to the streets after hearing the "big bang" and help evacuate victims from the scene to the hospital.
He also estimated that 10 people were killed and several others injured.
Police in Bauchi did not answer phone calls and messages asking to leave what was intended.
Ishola Michael, spokesman for the governor of Bauchi, Yuguda Isha, said the incident in Azare know it but refused to confirm any details.
Bauchi border with Yobe state, one of the three northeastern states under a state of emergency since May last year because of the violence of Boko Haram.
The regions that have been attacked repeatedly by the insurgency, which is estimated to have killed more than 10,000 people.
Some of the violence in the north blamed on Boko Haram which has been a separate criminal group.
While no one claimed responsibility for the bombings targeted at Azare resembles Boko Haram attacks in other places.
